August 2021

A week on the road making it up as we went along and a week in a house in Skye, fantastic weather enabled a brilliant holiday mixing outdoor activities and serious RnR.

Day 1: Drive up from my folks, decide to head east at Carlisle, overnight in a campsite near Kielder

Day 2: Kielder forest on bikes, overnight in a campsite near Holy Island

Day 3: Cycle to Holy Island, drive up to overnight at a new Aire in Eyemouth

Day 4: Drive north through Berwick upon Tweed, to Edinburgh, cross to the West Highlands, hit Glencoe, the Clachaig and overnight in Red Squirrel campsite.

Day 5: Nevis Range mountain biking, drive up to Loch Quoich, overnight roadside (cleared rubbish left by others!)

Day 6: Breakfast in cafe at Kinloch Hourne, walk to beach on Loch Hourne. Lunch in Fort Augustus, overnight by ferry quay at Glenelg

Day 7: Breakfast coffee and souvenirs at Ferry cafe/shop, cross to Skye. Lunch at Portree, arrive at house in Colbost.

Day 8: I head out for bike ride, everyone else relaxes in the house. Evening head down to the local pier/beach.

Day 9: Drive out to the Quiraing, frighten ourselves on the steep haul up to the Needle.

Day 10: Cycle from the house to the coral beach at Clagain via lunch in Dunvegan.

Day 11: Chill around the house, (I go for a bike ride) head to Carbost, acquire a ridiculous amount of seafood, decide not to queue to get into the Talisker Distillery shop, go to the Old Inn for a pint, head back to the house and cook and consume a ridiculous amount of seafood.

Day 12: Early start, head to the Cuillin and brave the midges and hike up to Coire Lagan in glorious sunshine.

Day 13: Pack up and head back to folks.

Day 14: Back in London – awesome trip!

Rudolph was fantastic, the only real problem being the near-side headlight reflector rattling off on the bumpy tarmac heading to Loch Quoich. Fixed with Araldite and duct tape – still going strong.
